Budget Wedding Planning Advice

This article has been viewed 46 times.

According to many studies, the number one subject of arguments between married couples is money. So it is somewhat ironic that one of the biggest expenses you’ll ever have as a couple is the amount you’ll spend on your wedding; your very first day together. Even though everyone knows that it’s going to be expensive, the tendency to want everything to be the best, and then letting emotion guide you from there, tends to dramatically increase wedding expenses until the entire event is on the verge of being completely out of control. Not a good way to begin a life together with your significant other.

Lets examine some key components to gaining control of this process and saving yourselves a lot of stress, a lot of money and still having a wonderful wedding.

The first step in this process is establishing a realistic money amount for what you can afford, and want to spend on your wedding.

Once you have done this let the budget guide your decisions. In order to do that you must get very good at four crucial things: planning, research, organization, and communication. Each is essential, and each one compliments the other three.

Start by planning how you want the wedding to go. Everything from where, to when, to how many people will be invited, what food will be served, everything. Write it down in a way that makes it easy for both of you to keep the big picture (literally, in this case) in view. Plan for what you really want to begin with, and take it from there.

Now you must devote time and energy to researching the options available to you for each thing you will spend money on. This goes for everything: flowers, food, music, decorations, invitations, etc. Investigate who provides these things, who is good at it, and the different pricing options you have to choose from. Once you have a list of options for each element of the wedding begin to decide which one you’ll choose in each case.

Get a physical file cabinet and create a folder for each spending category and fill these folders with notes and information. In other words, keep your planning and research organized. By organising things in a physical file cabinet, in addition to your computer, it allows you to work together more smoothly as a couple.

Which brings us to the fourth and most crucial component of your wedding planning;

communication. Make sure everything is out in the open and that each of you understands each and every detail of the planning process. Arguments over money spring from mis-communication. When you’re a team, sharing knowledge and making prudent decisions based on this knowledge together, you not only achieve your budget goals, but you become an even closer couple in the process.

So as you can see, a budget wedding is not only an opportunity to keep potential run away expenditures under control, but it’s also a chance to build a closer working bond, and get your life together started on a firm foundation.
