Dress Me! I Am Vintageous

The vintage style will be up to all gals who starve to look descent and at the very same time to emphasize their personality.

What is vintage?

The term vintage originally came from the winery culture. It can be translated from French as “the best harvest of some special year” or “extra-class many-year-old wine”. If you want to translate this term from wine slang into fashion language it will mean authentically made or very original clothes released in the 20’s-80’s.

Yet some fashion experts disagree with this point. Orthodox fashion critics suggest calling “vintageous” only items of clothes released before the 60’s.

And how to tell the difference between the vintage and a second hand?

Oftentimes young gals can be seen on FTV pronouncing: “This is Alex McQueen trousers and the rest is vintage”. But some gals start storming the second hand stores thinking this is the true vintage. Indeed, you can find clothes to be called vintage but… they will be marked as hardly good with the “wearing-outs”.

Since the true vintage can be found on ebay and at any flea markets, especially the European ones.

In other words, you can call vintage fashion “the vintage fashion” only if you wear the sets which are more than 20 years old.

Vintage fashion cannot be mass consumption goods of its time. The set can be called “vintage” if it can be referred to as “the latest fashion rage” of that epoch.

The clothes must be unique, extra ordinary and distinctive; otherwise you can hardly call your sets “vintages”.

The modern fashion designers can quote vintage in their own way: they can take vintage fabrics for the modern silhouettes or use the ultra-modern fabrics to tailor some retro inspired gowns. It can be hardly called the true vintage but you can easily call this the “neo-vintage” or “neo-vintageous”.

If you, in the main, insist on wearing the true vintage style you may discover your grannies’ wardrobes or become the constant ebay user. You can still find something vintageous in your nearest second-hand store yet it will take you a lot of time.

Here are also some special vintage stores, especially when it comes to Milan fashion tours. You will find there even the dresses once worn by the local celebs. But the trading range in those stores may be too much peculiar.

The vintage style became popular thanks to retro styled Hollywood movies released in the 1990’s. And in the 2000’s the vintage “went forward at a steady gait”. Dita von Teese, Kate Moss, Julia Roberts, bohemian inspired twins Olsen, they all drew the inspiration from vintage.

Why do people love vintage?

The Uniqueness: many clothes were made in a single exemplar or limited quantity.

The High quality: vintage dresses are classic, they may have been worn for many years yet they were not worn out. The quality was time tested.

The best investment: The vintage clothes are really great items of clothes made of the best high-quality fabrics. With the passing of the years they only increase in price.

The history: any vintage style, especially bridal wear is saturated with “histoire de la moda”.

The details: The handcrafted details, whimsical buttons, hand-made leather and other attributes of extra uniqueness.

Eco-friendly: Usually vintage clothes are made of natural fabrics; therefore, you can easily call them “eco friendly”.

The vintage style implies having special accessories but they all must be of the same time and epoch. Before dawning some evening gown with vintage inspired accessories you should study the fashion of those days.

Yet, you can find the clothes styled as vintage without any efforts in the following fashion houses and brands: Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Emilio Pucci, Yves Saint-Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Jeanne Lanvin, Hubert de Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, Inga Nataya and Miss Patina.

Vintage clothes. What items are in favors?

The vintage flapper or rockabilly dresses, vintage belts and wallets, brooches and art-deco coats will be always in vogue. Vintage fashion is not only for ordinary fashionistas, but also for house interior and even for the kids!

Vintage fashion is always trendy, stylish, expensive and vogue!
