How To Make Smoke Alarms Stop Beeping

This article has been viewed 305 times.

Are you a victim of the beeping smoke alarm? We all know how annoying and frustrating it can be to have your smoke detector beeping every few minutes but what do you do to stop it?

Smoke alarm manufacturers programmed this incredibly annoying feature into their smoke detectors to make sure that you keep a good working battery in place. You’ve got to remember that these irksome noisy smoke detectors are your front line of defense against fire safety in your home. So if one or more of your detectors begins to chirp you should take care of the problem immediately rather than take the batteries out and wait until later.

Most of the time, the detector is beeping simply because the battery needs to be replaced and for safety’s sake that should be done immediately. Many detectors available on today’s market are hard wired into your home’s electricity grid and carry a battery backup. Sometimes the fires that break out can cause a general power failure in the home and the batteries in your home smoke detectors is your last defense against these types of fires.

Make sure that you keep fresh batteries in your smoke alarms and some spares in the house. If you go on holiday for more than a few days please check your smoke detectors when you return home to make sure that they all are functioning properly. Its quite easy for a smoke detector to beep its heart out to an empty house, and if you don’t test your alarms when you get home you will never know until it is too late if they are working properly or not.

In order to cut down on unnecessary smoke alarm power consumption, don’t place your detectors near your stove, especially if you like to cook a lot. Smoke from your food will constantly set off your alarms and deplete the batteries.

Remember, that even though smoke alarms are very low maintenance appliances, you must keep them working in your home. Make sure you change the batteries at least twice a year even if the alarm hasn’t begun beeping. Test all of them once every six months or when you return from holiday to make sure they are functioning correctly. Finally, replace them completely every ten years, they are not manufactured to last longer than that. Following these simple tips will keep your home quiet from your smoke detector beeping, as well as keep you and your family safe from fire.
