Movie Review Of Star Trek

Space. The final frontier, and all that jazz, right? So you say you have never been much of a fan of the Star Trek franchise, right? Well, the new Star Trek movie from director JJ Abrams may change all of that for you. The new film features a fantastic story, fantastic special effects, and fantastic acting. Plus, if you were already a fan of the original series, then you will love the amount of detail thrown in their especially for you.
The plot for the film is simple. A time traveling Romulan terrorist named Nero is out to destroy the planet Vulcan and punish Spock for failing to save his planet in the future. Except, he is after the younger Spock (played brilliantly by Zachary Quinto). It is up to a young James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and the rest of the crew of the USS Enterprise to stop him before he unravels the fabric of the universe.
Normally Star Trek is associated with nerds who live in the basement in the house of their mother and is notorious for being inclusive specifically for those fans. Throw in the fact that the movie is based on a TV show, a genre that has rarely proved successful on film, and it is understandable as to why you would probably not want to see it (if you are not already a fan, that is). However, you will be surprised to find that Star Trek does what the original series intended to do. It bring science fiction that everyone can enjoy. The movie is fun, fast, and has a story that will satisfy old fans and make new ones. However, the action and special effects take a backseat to what is a very character driven story. You get a sense of what each character is like and you will enjoy it all the way. Also sure to please fans is Leonard Nimoy reprising his role as Spock. In fact, the only problem the movie seems to have is the fact that the villain just is not fleshed out enough. Apart from that, everything works extremely well together, and Abrams has proven himself as a director who is capable of working style and substance equally together.
So, whether you are a science fiction fan or not, you should definitely be able to find something for you with Star Trek. Even movie viewers who abhor sci-fi flicks thoroughly enjoyed the film.
