Taylor Swift – Joe Jonas Can’t Let Go
The teen years and early twenties can often be filled (unfortunately) with broken hearts and unnecessary drama, but when you happen to be a superstar, those instances only become media fodder. Taylor Swift had a highly-publicized romance with Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. The couple broke up in 2008, but Joe Jonas apparently isn’t through airing his grievances-even though he was the one to break up with the country superstar in the first place! On the Jonas Brothers’ new album Joe Jonas wrote a song that is obviously about life after Taylor. Titled “Much Better,” the song features the lyrics, “Got a rep for breakin’ hearts/Now I’m done with super stars/And all the tears on her guitar/I’m not bitter/Now I see everything I’d ever need/Is the girl in front of me/She’s Much Better.” The intro is an obvious reference to Taylor Swift’s successful single, “Teardrops on My Guitar.”
In case Jonas Brothers’ fans weren’t sure who “Much Better” was referencing, Joe turned the lyrics “I’m done with superstars” to “I’m done with country stars” at a recent concert, according to many sources. The jab was even more interesting considering that Joe started dating Camilla Belle suspiciously soon after the breakup, AND he broke up with Swift over the phone. If anything, he should be trying to make himself look like more of a boy scout rather than a vindictive ex-boyfriend. To be fair, Taylor also has a song about the breakup on her new album, called “Forever and Always,” but it is more about heartache than insults. Taylor Swift is heralded as the leader of the new generation of country superstars. Taylor started playing music from a very young age and also started blossoming into a talented songwriter. She landed a record deal and dropped the single “Tim McGraw” in the summer of 2006, followed soon by her self-titled debut album. Taylor wrote or co-wrote all of the tracks on the album. It was a smashing success, easily finding more single success with tracks like “Should’ve Said No,” “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Picture to Burn” and “Our Song.” Her singles were not only top country hits, but also crossed over into mainstream audiences, making Swift an instant star with her mix of teenage innocence and heartfelt songwriting.
She capitalized on her newfound success with a holiday collection in 2007 and then dropped her second album, Fearless, in 2008 and showed a more mature sound. Swift stayed true to her age with a top mix of fun, silly, romantic and serious songs on the release, finding more country and crossover success with singles like “Love Story,” “White Horse,” “You Belong With Me,” “Fearless” and “Fifteen.” Her tours are some of the most successful in the country scene, and this summer she is sharing the stage with everyone from her friend and fellow country songstress Kellie Pickler to country superstar Keith Urban.
