Why I Know That Smokeless Cigarettes Are Better Than Tobacco Products

I smoked tobacco cigarettes for a long time – 40 years would you believe! I got that I was ruining my health, I got that I was putting those around myself at risk but I was addicted and couldn’t stop. I felt bad about that, felt bad about myself for a long time. Then one day I saw an article about electronic cigarettes on the Internet and grew curious, that was when I ordered my smokeless cigarette starter kit. That reads like an advert doesn’t it :)

Smokeless Cigarette First Impressions

I wasn’t too impressed when I first saw it, but still curious enough to charge it up ready for my first puff the following morning. My first reaction was that it didn’t seem natural smoking this hard thing rather than a much softer tobacco version. It felt hard on my lips, but then I knew that my ecig was never going to stick to my lips causing me to burn my fingers as happens on occasion with regular cigs and especially roll ups.

I had purposely not bought any tobacco cigarettes for that day because I wanted to give my smokeless cigarette a proper trial. Wondered if that had been a mistake as the day drew on, but in the evening I realised that I actually hadn’t smoked as much as I did normally and that maybe electronic cigarettes were a good idea after all.

Cutting Back Without Trying

Smoking less didn’t feel logical. With normal cigs I had banned smoking in every room in my house except the kitchen and then only when the weather was too bad to go out to the back yard. My ban was because the tar was discolouring the paintwork, not because I didn’t like sitting in smoke filled rooms. The ban had helped me to cut back somewhat so I didn’t expect the freedom of being able to ignore my house rule to help me to cut back further.

With my smokeless cigarette I was able to sit and work at my computer and smoke without risking damage or discolouration to it. My first computer went from grey to brown within the year of it’s existence, so I stopped smoking while working. I’m not saying the tobacco fumes destroyed it but they can’t have helped.

I think that the difference was that with my ecig I could take a drag or two and put it down anywhere without it going out. With tobacco cigarettes I would smoke a whole one, sometimes half and save the docker until later. So that meant a whole cig was smoked in 1 or 2 goes but the equivelant amount of nicotine in my ecigarette was probably smoked in 10 – 20 goes. So yes I cut back without trying and was able to smoke anywhere in my home and in front of my computer again.

What Does An Electronic Cigarette Taste Like?

I often get asked about the taste of an ecig and how it compares. I got menthol cartridges to use with my starter kit and they tasted fine. I also got some normal flavour cartridges and didn’t like those, but I didn’t like the taste of normal cigarettes anyway after years of menthol only. Cartridges don’t cost much so you can experiment with different flavours and different strengths, even nicotine free cartridges. You can also get oils in many different flavours.

Saving Money With Ecigs

Talking about cost, it works out a lot cheaper to buy smokeless cigarettes than it does tobacco cigarettes even though you have to order them from the Internet and that will include postage. At the moment there is no high government taxes to pay and that’s a good thing too.

Freedom To Smoke

Freedom is pretty important to me and I hated being made to feel a leper whenever I lit up. Silent disaproval, sarcastic comments and strong vocal objections became the norm over the years as we all became more educated about the health risks tobacco smoking brought with them. The intolerance towards my bad habit grew and even more so when tobacco smoking was banned in public places. I didn’t try to smoke in those places, but whenever I lit up outside I got grief.

Using my smokeless cigarette in public places is legal, but I haven’t done it often because I don’t want to upset others. I’ve got to admit that I’ve sneaked a few drags in the toilets on long train or plane journeys to help with the stress of traveling. No danger to anybody there. When I’ve smoked my e-cig outdoors the reactions that I’ve received have ranged from curiousity to amusement – what a welcome change from intolerence. It’s interesting to note that it’s been older tobacco smokers who have been the most curious, but then they are more likely to be noticing health problems due to their addiction.

Cigarette Burns

I’ve thrown away some lovely clothes with cigarette burns in them. Not from my cigs, from other peoples when smoking was allowed in public places. I’d hate to think that I burned other people’s clothes in my tobacco smoking days. I was always careful but you never know.

I’ve been to houses where there has been cigarette burns in the furniture and carpets, never happened in my own home thank goodness. Nightclubs and bars used to suffer from cig burns a lot and as the evenings went on a smelly, smokey fug hung over the places, not to mention over flowing dirty ashtrays. Pretty disgusting really and what an awful job the cleaners would have had the next morning.

None of that can happen with smokeless cigarettes so they really are environmentally friendly.

Those are only a few of the reasons why smokeless cigarettes are better than tobacco products. Better in every way I think and as more and more people turn to electronic cigarettes perhaps the future is healthier for all of us.
